How
can I join & compete for the Club?
Fill
in a registration form and send/give it to the current
registrar with the appropriate fee.
What
are the fees?
When
joining AE you have two levels of fees:
AE
club fees apply to social athletes, ANSW runners and
officials. All members pay this fee. The fee structure
varies depending if you are applying as an individual,
family, youth or official.
ANSW
fees apply only to athletes who wish to run
in ANSW events.
What
is a NSW registered runner / athlete?
ANSW
are responsible for the summer and winter club
premiership competitions as well as all state
championship competitions. A registered athlete can
compete in these competitions and is eligible to win
medals and trophies.
What
do I get for my fees?
ANSW
fees
- allow you to run as a point-scoring athlete for your
club and covers you for training/competing injury
insurance. You also receive copy of the summer and
winter ANSW handbook which provides details of the club
point score competitions.
Club
fees – assist with fund raising to cover expenses of
news letter, relay team entries, voting rights,
liability insurance and fun run club activities.
Do
all race entry fees get paid for me when I become a
member?
Due to the low club fees race entry fees can only be
paid when competing for the club in ANSW events. These
events usually incur an affordable entry fee.
Unfortunately the club is unable to cover the
costs of fun runs, multi-sport events, marathons &
half-marathons (even if they are championship events)
due to their high entry fees.
Insurance
– what am I covered for?
AE have insurance which covers all members. It is the
NSW Sporting Injuries Insurance Scheme which was created
by the NSW State Government to provide a level of compensation
to people whom sustain a permanent injury or disability
while participating in a sporting activity. To be eligible
for a claim while training you must be with an authorised
training program set by your coach. If
you are a registered ANSW member there is additional
insurance cover to what is provided in the AE Club
insurance. This will cover you while competing in
any competition that is organised by ANSW or club
runs organised by Athletics East. To be eligible for
a claim while training you must be with an authorised
training program set by your coach.
Note:
Full details of this insurance coverage is available
from the clubs Sectretary
What coaching facilities do you have?
We
have a number of qualified coaches in the club. Coaching
fees are applicable at sessions run by a coach. The fees
vary depending at what level you require assistance. If
you are interested in working with a coach please
contact the head coach who will advise you further.
| |
What
sort of races can I compete in?
As
a registered ANSW athlete – you can compete in
everything where you meet the qualifying standards
Athletics Australia and Athletics NSW conducts plus fun
runs and any club events.
As
a club social athlete – in club organised
events and any fun runs.
How
do I show I am interested in participating in a track,
winter races or a field events?
When
completing your registration form (or re-registration
form) you should indicate your intentions for the coming
year. Of course you can contact the club team manager,
coaches or secretary at any time.
Can
I be a part of one of the ANSW teams events like the
Relays?
Yes,
if you register with ANSW. You should also indicate you
interest on your registration (or re-registration) form
or contact the team manager or head coach. All are
welcome.
How
do the seasons work?
The
year is split into two seasons:
Winter
Premiership – Road and cross-country season April –
September – consists of men 12 & 8km, women 8
& 5k and 4x4km Cross country races. Road races
consist of 10km, half marathon, marathon, 4x5km and long
distance relay (12 person team (open) - 6 person team
female). All races are state championships and are Open
A & B grade and incorporate all age groups. All
groups win 1st, 2nd, 3rd place
medals individually as well as for teams.
Summer
Premiership
– A Club vs. Club track & field competition,
State individual and relay championships, grand prix
and national/veteran championships.
What
do the committee do?
The
committee runs the club at administration level. They
are responsible for welfare of all athletes competing
for the club with the mission statement "to help
all athletes achieve their potential regardless of their
age or ability".
The
committee’s work include recruitment of new members,
compile the newsletter, organise fundraising, run
special events, officiate at races, liaise with ANSW and
be there for the members.

What
if I want to have my say?
AE
is a very democratic club. If you have questions or
issues you’d like to raise please speak to a committee
member and they can either raise the issue for you or
you are free to attend any committee meeting. The more
contribution we have the better we can make the club for
our members. Additionally the AGM provides a good forum
to have your say.
And
Now a new Feature will be our Online AE forums
for quick answers to you questions easily
What
are my Club voting rights?
All members whether ANSW registered or not have equal
voting rights. The AGM is held in May and one months
notice of the meeting date will be given to members.
Can
I become more involved in the club?
YES, YES, YES – The more people involved the more
the club can do. Assistance at any level is most welcome.
To make the club fun for it’s members the more socials,
fun runs/rides/paddles etc the better. Your assistance
in these areas would be greatly appreciated.
Can
I learn new sports admin skills eg coaching, officiating,
timekeeping etc?
Yes
the club has a wealth of talent in these areas. From
Olympic officials & level III coaches we have the
qualified personnel to either introduce to a new
interest or to act as mentor to further your skills.
Coaching courses are available through the Australian
Track & Field Coaches Association. Assisting as an
official at events provides the training required for
Athletics Australia’s official’s accreditation.
| |
What
awards do the club have?
Each
May (after the club AGM) there is an award presentation
night. Awards are presented on the following basis:

– this might be a person who’s qualified at
national or international level or it may be someone

Does
the club run activities that are non-running i.e. water
stations, marshals, social events?
Yes
being a marshal or assisting at a water station proves
to be a great social occasion but more importantly
usually are a fundraising activity for the club. Club
members support us by helping out at these events they
minimise the number of normal fundraising ventures such
as raffles. A number of social events are held
throughout the year. This provides a great opportunity
for all members to get together and enjoy activities
outside of training.
Can
I contribute an article to the newsletter or web page ?
Anybody
is welcome to submit anything at all; it doesn’t
always have to be about sport, it can be just an
interesting article. Send your articles to your group
representative.
