As a fellow athletics club we are putting our support behind St George Athletics Club in their petition for a synthetic athletics track.
Please read the following message from the club and pledge your support on the link below:
For decades we have been seeking a synthetic athletics track.
It’s 60 years since Albie set his first World Record, at the opening meet at Santry Stadium in Ireland.
We’ve had a number of home grounds over the years which have been taken over by other sports that have commercial backing (eg Hurstville Oval, Jubille Oval, Harold Fraser Oval, Olds Park). I’d really appreciate it if you were able to sign this e-petition and forward it (pass the baton?) to family and friends.
While it benefits us, it also benefits local schools through reducing travel costs for their carnivals, and community health.
We want to give Georges River Council and all levels of Government the numbers to keep up the momentum for an athletics centre at Riverwood Park.
We’ve had some promising initial signs thanks to the hard work of SGDAC and St George Little Athletics members. There’s still a long way to go.
The petition is called “Kevin Greene- George River Council Mayor: Finally a track in St George?”. Note the congratulatory and supportive tone.
