NSW Road Relay Championships, Saturday 6th August

Golden Road Relays Bankstown

The Crest at Bankstown was the site for the road relays this year and it proved to be a
very good popular course that with a few tweaks will become a great course and venue.
A small 3 team turnout from AE still had the heads turning with an over 50 team male
and 40+ female double gold result.

Over 50 male
Big, big run from Pete “swift” Sweeny finishing second overall and recording a great
time. Mark “give it some beans” Gregory in no time at all was then leading the race, he
maintained this golden position and handed over to Ken “Cruise missile” Wilson who
stunningly ran a negative split over the two-lap course. Darren “Mtn Man” Purcell then
had the job of finishing off the team’s effort for a first place finish.

Over 40 female
Naomi “Turbo” Tancred put the pedal to the metal and recorded a very impressive 15.27 first leg time. Great Debut run from Aggi as second leg runner, composed and controlled she kept team in first place for hand over. Jane “Boydsy” Boyd ticked off another great effort in a comeback run of quality keeping the team in that golden zone for Rona “ no probs with this” Macniven to safely finish in first place.

Over 40 male
Big, big thanks to Pete, Mark and Naomi for backing up in the true spirit of AE to make
this a compete team, very much appreciated guys. Naomi “did I really run that time” Tancred recorded a time of only 25 seconds slower than her stonkingly good over 40 team time. Wayne put in solid effort for second runner with good first and second lap splits. Mark “gave it some beans again” Gregory got onto
it and put the pressure on Pete “Tired but still swift” Sweeny to complete the team who finished a competitive 4th place.
