The annual running of the Tony Brown 10km presented runners with a perfect morning for running. Crisp, no wind and the sun slowly rising in the sky without a cloud for miles.
Pete and Ris flew in from the UK just in time to start the race and keep times for all the runners as a large sized group set off for the 5km out and back loop.
The 5km race saw a very close tussle between the girls with only seconds separating the top 3. Rona Macniven just held off a very fast finishing Sally Hannah to take the 5km line honours with Sarah Jane Beattie finishing her season with yet another pb running 20.46 to finish 4 seconds later.
Ken Wilson led home the boys in the 5km with a handy 21.28 for his first time around the course.
The 10km main race saw a close tussle in the mens race over the first 5km with Kevin O’Brien and James Costello running identical 5km splits (17.44) before Kevin pushed away over the second lap to record a negative split 5km loop and finish with a convincing win in 35.23. James fought on gallantly to take out second place in 36.07 with Mark Gregory running an incredible even paced race taking out third in 37.51.
The female race saw Lisa Biffin take the line honours for the girls, in 39.18 for her first attempt across the course. A much closer battle was happening for 2nd, 3rd and 4th position with Rebecca Holmes doing a lot of the early pacing and the lead changing throughout the race between Gill Sohun and Jane Boyd. With 500m to go, Jane put in a surge to snatch 2nd in a very swift time of 41.35, dragging Gillian through in a PB of 41.45 and Rebecca coming home in 4th in 41.53.
Other notable performances in the female race were the number of PBs run. Naomi Tancred (42.43), Lorna Santry (43.10), Jude Gregory (44.16) and Heather Bolton (45.39).
Our Fun Runners were also represented as the Tony Brown is a point score for both AE streams. Martin Cosby took out the male fun runners top points running 40.41 over the 10km.
